VIP FAQs!!!
What do I do when my child will be absent?
Call 604-903-3285 and you will be asked to leave a message with the details. Or download the new app SchoolMessenger and conveniently report your childs absence with a few clicks.
What should I pack in my child’s lunch bag?
Go for healthy options! Stick to a refillable water bottle and avoid sending milk or juice. Kindergarten kids get more chances to eat during the day than the older grades so make sure there are plenty of healthy and easy to eat snacks. Check with your classroom teacher for any further restrictions. The school is a nut free school.
What should I pack in my child’s backpack?
A spare set of clothes including shoes that can be left at school (it really helps reduce the amount of dirt and mud brought in to the classrooms if you can leave a spare pair of indoor shoes at school). You might also want to leave extra rain gear if your child participates in Outdoor Learning. Please label all clothing too.
My child has lost something, is there a lost and found?
There is a lost and found located across from the library in the hallway. Twice a year any unclaimed items are donated to a charity of the school's choice.
Why am I asked to provide a ‘care kit’ for my child?
You will receive the information the first week of school. Comfort Kits are kept in the classroom emergency backpacks and will be given to students in the case of an earthquake or other emergency which may require them to stay at school.
What is the Parent Advisory Council (PAC)?
The elected PAC is a group of four to eight individuals who represent the direction the parent body wish to go with fundraising for special events, field trips, extra classroom supplies, playground, computers and coordinating volunteers for activities such as Hot Lunch, fundraising events, classroom reps. and other things not otherwise funded.
Volunteering can take as little or as much time as you have available and there are always opportunities to volunteer outside school hours (eg. decorations, baking, posters, calling, school directory, Scholastic orders)
All parents are automatically members of the PAC. We have an elected executive committee. Without an elected PAC of at least 4 members our school would lose an $8000 yearly grant!
PAC meetings are held at the beginning of the month (see school calendar) and provide a great opportunity to meet other parents, find out information about what is happening in the school and to see the occasional guest speaker. Currently PAC meetings are held over ZOOM and a link and agenda is shared a couple days before the meeting.
How can I get more involved?
Join the Executive - Elections will be held at the November meeting.
Donate - Your time, your ideas, your talent, your creativity, corporate goods or services, items for the school, supplies for events, your home baking. The possibilities are endless.
Volunteer - Sign up to volunteer for any future events. Information is posted on the PAC board outside the office and on the web site.
Who can I ask if I have any other questions?
Any of the PAC committee members would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Our contact information is located on the website or the PAC board.
How should I expect to receive information from the PAC?
You can email [email protected] and asked to be added to the email list, or you can double check this link here to see if you are already signed up. As the school is attempting to use as little paper as possible, you will not receive information regarding Hot Lunch, special events, etc. without allowing us to use your email. We make every attempt to not inundate you with information emails.
Fun Lunch – every Thursday, food is available to order from a local restaurant and delivered to the school. All funds raised go to the PAC. Ordering is done in three month blocks on-line through the Munch a Lunch tool which is located on the front page of the website.
Highlights of the school year:
Back to SchoolaPalooza - this is our annual event held in September. Please visit the events pages for further information.
School Dances - Come on out and bust a move and have fun with friends and family. There is usually a bake sale too!
Picnic in the Park - Carnival games, food vendors, silent auction, face paint, treats, fun had by all
December Jingle Mingle – this is our major fundraising event of the school year which is a fun family event with activities for the kids, music, crafts, cake walk and raffle baskets. One of the highlights is the Jingle Shop – a kid’s only store with inexpensive, gently used, donated items. Watch for more information as to how you can donate in November.
